Substitoot — a transparent toot fetcher
Substitoot is a Chrome add-on developed by Kludge Guru that aims to enhance the Mastodon experience by providing missing replies to boosted toots directly from the source server. This add-on addresses the common issue of Mastodon failing to show up-to-date context and information on posts from remote instances.
With Substitoot, users can now see all the replies to any post on their home instance, including both local and remote replies. The add-on loads these replies in parallel, ensuring there is no extra delay. Additionally, users can view the latest 40 posts in any user's profile and interact with remote posts as normal, with the posts being fetched to their instance as needed. Substitoot also provides up-to-date boost and favorite counts on posts.
It is important to note that Substitoot is designed to work reliably on mainline Mastodon versions 4.0 and up. Compatibility with older instances or forks may vary.
To ensure optimal functionality, users are advised to open the add-on settings and specify the instances on which it should be active.
